6th Annual Student Writing Contests.
“Thank you very much for participating in our 6th annual student writing contests.
We received thousands of entries from more than a thousand teachers across Canada.
Five of your Grade 5 students have advanced to the second round to be eligible for cash prizes,
but more importantly these 5 students will now be published in our national magazine!” –
Polar Expressions Publishing.
As a published author and one who is passionate about teaching writing for the past 12 years,
this is perhaps the highest compliment students could offer, and admittedly it is very emotional for me too.

Presentation by Scott Graham
On Wednesday, January 18, the students of Northmount will be attending Scott Graham’s Bully-Free-Me assem-bly.
Scott Graham uses powerful stories, role-plays and instruction to relay information that will teach students practical strategies on how to deal with bullying
and be empowered to help others. We will be holding two as-semblies.
One will be for Grades K-4, the second will be for Grades 5-8.
Knights at Northmount
The Knight of Columbus were at Northmount School on Monday, December 5th to launch another year of Christmas hope and generosity through our Christmas Basket Program.
Since 1999, Northmount students have supported over 141 families in the Toronto area, which accounted for over 1,004 people.
Our Christmas baskets are organized through the Catholic Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and through the fraternal order of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11813.
Northmount boys and members of the Knights deliver the baskets in teams directly to the homes of the peo-ple who have applied for them.
This teaches the boys appreciation and empathy.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!
What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event.
We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s books. Your support of this vital literary fundraiser is key
to our obtaining new books and resources for our library and classrooms.
You’ll find hundreds of quality books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels! We look forward to seeing you during our Scholastic Book Fair
and thank you, in advance, for supporting this great literary fundraiser. Mostly, thank you for believing in books and the importance reading has on your child’s future.
Book Fair wil take place between November 1st and November 3rd, please check School Calendar for more details.

Flag Football Tournament, October 11, 2011
What a sunny day for football! Knute Rockne must have been smiling down upon us!
Normally, this tourna-ment takes place in weather that would challenge the post office‘s infamous weather related pledge.
Our team of ten boys had three loses and a spectacular 30 –0 win, over a team which later beat one that had bested us.
I am pleased to say that we all had a fun day full of adventure and great moments in offense and defense.
I am also delighted in saying that each player received an ample amount of playing time. Congratulations to all the boys
who attended and those who practiced with us. I am looking forward to next year!

Welcome Back
We were all so delighted with our kick off on the first day of school and the support offered by you, our Parents.
The boys picked up on this positive note and carried that attitude and energy with them for the day.
“’Begin as you will continue,” this remains one of the profound sayings that I try to live by.
We have made a fine start and this bodes well for the journey ahead.
