Houses

Each Northmount student belongs to one of three houses - Banting, Fox or Orr - named after famous Canadians in science, humanitarianism and sports respectively.  The houses foster school spirit through friendly competition in sports. They also provide important opportunities for students to establish friendships with students in every other grade. Younger students look up to older students who are given leadership opportunities as big brothers, house captains, student ambassadors or members of the student government. Our students readily learn that respect, leadership and service to others are virtues that are compatible with masculinity.

A few weeks into the school year, a new student sits on a stool in front of his classmates at a morning assembly. The teacher at his side tells the school about his strengths, then unfurls the Northmount flag, drapes it over his shoulders and announces the house to which he belongs. His house cheers wildly, and he is welcomed warmly with pats on the back and laughter.
