Character Education Each Northmount boy knows that character is not personality; it comprises virtues that need to be practiced daily. Each month the school as a whole, as well as each class, studies a particular good habit or virtue - such as responsibility, self-control and patience - in order to set goals for its practice. Our character education program begins in Senior Kindergarten, where boys learn simple rules of good behaviour and are encouraged to develop good habits. We believe that good habits formed at a young age make all the difference. They provide the foundation for academic and personal success. Our students grow in character through what they are taught, what they see teachers do and through what teachers and advisors guide them to practise. Our school motto, Libertas in Veritate, which translates as "Freedom in Truth," captures the essence of a Northmount education: a young man who is mature because he embraces freedom as a gift to be used positively. He thrives after Northmount because he pursues love of learning before grades, takes pleasure in helping others and makes responsible use of his gifts and talents.
