A Rigorous Program of Learning

At the heart of a Northmount education is the achievement of excellence in academics. Graduating a well-rounded young man capable of pursuing the finest high school programs demands a well-rounded education. We are committed to a balanced program of academics, athletics and the arts that educates the mind, the body and the spirit.

Junior School
In Junior and Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1, the primary manner of learning is through games, stories, songs and activities that allow students to touch taste, smell and see the matter at hand. Slowly, we establish longer periods of attention to build powers of observation and memory.

Middle School
From Grades Two to Five, we develop his growing powers of observation and memory in order to master the essential skills and knowledge across the curriculum. Highly structured language arts and mathematics programs are at a key focus. Concepts are first taught in small pieces and are reviewed on a daily basis to ensure mastery and eliminate gaps in learning. Frequent testing reinforces what he has learned.

Upper School
From Grades Six to Eight
, the boys put these tools to effective use by means of well-honed study skills, critical thinking skills and creative approaches to problem-solving

A Northmount student is able to accomplish two important goals. First, he learns to think for himself, analyzing information, arguments and claims. His ability to think for himself, however, is compromised if he cannot express his thoughts articulately. The second goal he achieves is, therefore, is the ability to express himself confidently, persuasively and correctly.
